• Services of Agricultural Cooperatives for Farm Households Business in Thai Binh and Hoa Binh Provinces

  The studyinvestigatedservice activities of agricultural cooperatives and the role of services for farm households business through farmers’ assessment in Thai Binh and Hoa Binh provinces. The results showedthat most of farmers are aware of and use basic services from agricultural cooperatives such assupply of agricultural inputs, transfer of advanced technology, crop protection, irrigation,andfarm production management support. The quality of services after cooperative joint in MARD-JICA Project was rated by farmerswith good remarks. The proportionof farm households reported that their income improved by services of the cooperative varied but at a high level for all of the two provinces, indicating thatthe important role of cooperatives in providing services to farm households. Farm households also suggested that services of agricultural cooperatives should be diversified and expanded in scale in almost types of services in the future. Especially, some services such assupply of inputs, marketing support, transfer of advanced technology, mechanical cultivation, crop protection, andfarm production management support should be expanded and improved.

• The Quality of Agricultural Public Services in the Red River Delta

  This study aims to evaluate the quality of agricultural public services in the Red River Deltafrom service user perspective. The analytical framework is based on the SERVQUAL service quality model and expanded to some criteria suitable for the agricultural public service field. Data collected by conducting survey in three representative provinces of the region including Hanoi, Ha Nam and Thai Binh, achieved 283 responses. The analysis results showed that three quality dimensions with a low rating in agricultural services were transparency and accountability, outputs, and tangible factors. Extension services have received a lower average quality score than plant protection and agricultural infrastructures.

• Developing Community-based Tourism Associated with Agricultural Production in Ba Vi District, Hanoi

  This study aimed to analyze the current situation of community-based tourism development associated with agricultural production in Ba Vi district, Hanoi city. The study was conducted on local officials and farmer households participating in the community tourism associated with agricultural production and 187 visitors using direct interview. Collected data were processed through SPSS software and Cronbach alpha coefficients, factor analysis and regression analysis were employed to assess the satisfaction of tourists on community-based tourism associated with agricultural production. The results show that tourism development to satisfy tourists in the area relied on 6 factors, viz. accommodation (0.365), food and beverage (0.318), infrastructure (0.286), service price (0.178), experience activities (0.169), and tourist service staff (0.165). Therefore, in order to further develop the community-based tourism associated with agricultural production in Ba Vi district, local authorities and tourist site managers need to invest and upgrade infrastructure, accommodation facilities, expanding catering services and shopping activities, diversifying experience activities and improving service skills of tourist staff.

• Impacts of Investment Projects on Livelihood and Employment of Local Peoplesuffering Agricultural Land Acquisition in Chuong My District, Ha Noi City

  The impactsof investment projects on livelihoodsandemployment of local people suffering agricultural land acquisition and the challenges of the land acquisition in the socio-economic development are of hottest debate, both in Vietnam in general and in Chuong My District in particular. The research results showedthat from 2000-2010, 2,249 households were acquired ofagricultural land with total area of 968.97 ha in the district. The land acquisitionhas contributed significantly to the change of economic structure: agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector decreasedto 22.00%, while industry and construction increased to 42.00% and trade and services increasedto36% by2010. However, the loss of agricultural land triggered some unexpected problems for some farmers, such as unemploymentandsocial impact. Specifically, the change of jobs in some households sufferingagricultural landacquisitionfor industrial clusters and parks was averagely only 16.5%. The results also indicatedthat the income of some local households was notchanged, but someotherhouseholdswith less agricultural land acquisitiongot lower incomecomparison with previous period.

• Developing Irrigation System for Serving Agriculture Production in My Loc District, Nam Dinh Province

  This study aims to analyze the development of irrigation systems in service of agricultural production in My Loc district, Nam Dinh province. Data were collected through interviews with households and irrigation managers in the district. Statistical methods of description, comparison, SWOT analysis were used. The results revealed that the yield and crop productivity were increased, the rate of meeting the agricultural production demands of the irrigation system has not been high, the ability of staff has been limited.Therefore, the main solutions need to do in coming time should be: improving the quality of maintenance of irrigation works; strengthening management capacity; determining the price of irrigation products or the services according to the willingness to pay of the users.

• Determinants on the Adoption of High-technology in Vegetable Production of Farm Households in Hanoi, Vietnam

  This study aimed to identify the factors affecting the adoption of high technology in vegetable production of farm households in Hanoi, Vietnam. A total of 164 farm households consisting of 88 households applying high technology in their vegetable production and 76 farm households with traditional production practice from two representative districts of Gia Lam and Dong Anh were randomly interviewed for the necessary data collection. Logit regression model was employed to explore the effects of different factors on the high technology adoption in vegetable production. Findings indicate that the farmer’ education, households’ income, vegetable areas, access to extension services and access to credit had statistically significant and positive impacts on the adoption. Meanwhile the gender, age, total agricultural land areas and locations did not exert clear impacts. Based on the findings, the major solutions for enhancing the adoption of high technology in vegetable production of farm households in Hanoi were proposed.

• Performance of Cooperatives in Tien Hai District, Thai Binh Province

  The study investigated 35 cooperatives and 105 members of cooperatives in Tien Hai district in order to collect the situation and to propose recommendations to improve the results of production and business activities of cooperatives in the district. The study investigated 35 cooperatives and 105 members of cooperatives in Tien Hai district in order to collect information on production and business activities of cooperatives. On the basis of analyzing the current situation, the study has proposed some recommendations to improve the results of production and business activities of cooperatives. The results showed that most of the cooperatives in Tien Hai are operated in many fields with two main business activities, production and service provision. In the period of 2016-2018, the average profit tended to increase but remained at low amounts. The profit was mainly used for reinvestment, without distributing to members. The majority of cooperative members must take the initiative in capital generation and product consumption. The mobilization of capital from the members is minimal. Members are satisfied with participating in the cooperative; the quality and price of products and services provided by the cooperatives are assessed at good levels. However, the role of cooperatives in helping members increase revenue, increase profits and the initiative to seek new ideas to increase the performance is only at a neutral score. In order to improve the performance of cooperatives in the district in the coming time, the authorities, cooperatives and members need to focus on: solving capital difficulties; promoting investment in consumption activities; strengthening linkages between businesses with cooperatives and members; and encouraging the cooperatives and members participate in safe agricultural value chains.
