Abstract
Panamadisease is a letal fungal diasese caused by the soil-born fungus Fusarium oxysporumf. sp. cubense(Foc). This study aimedto identify isolated Focstrainsandexaminetheir biological characteristics and the antagonistic effects of some antagonistic microbial agents against Fusarium oxysporumf. sp. cubenseisolated from collected samples. The morphological characteristic of the fungus Fusarium oxysporumf. sp. cubensetropical race 4(Foc-TR4) cultured on PDA medium varied from white to pale purple, with no spore cluster formed. There were two types of asexual spores: microconidia and macroconidia. Microconidiawereusually without septum, ovoid, oval, and 1.0-2.1 × 2.2-3.0µm in size. Macroconidiawerewith 2-5 septa, mostly with 2-3 septa, crescent-shaped with average size varying from 2.6-3.2 × 9.2-35.5µm. The pathogen Foc-TR4grew at temperatures from 15-35C. The optimum temperature for fungal growth was 25C. The appropriate pH for Foc-TR4fungus to grow and develop well was 6.0-7.0. The diameter of the fungal colony rangedfrom 74.8-77.9mm. The results of evaluating the antagonistic effect against Foc-TR4on PDA medium showed that Trichoderma asperellumgave the highest inhibitory effect (74.52%), followed by the Chaetomium globosumC10 at 67.35% and Bacillus velezensisYB9 at 61.33%. The results of this study provide more information about Foc-TR4strain and the biological controlof banana wiltdisease.
